Labor Day Lowdown

The Lake of the Ozarks is a popular destination for Labor Day weekend

Labor Day was created to celebrate the achievements of American workers, but for many of us, the three-day weekend is an opportunity to relax and enjoy time with our families. Although summer is coming to a close, many people have big plans to end the season on a high note.

One popular destination for St. Dominic students is the Lake of the Ozarks. The lake is the perfect weekend getaway for those who love being on the water.

“Every Labor Day weekend, my entire mom’s side of the family goes to the Lake of the Ozarks to stay at my grandparents’ lake house. I love going out on the boat with my family to eat and watch the sunset,” senior Maggie Howard said.

While the Lake of the Ozarks is always full of excitement and activity, Meramec River is a lesser-known vacation spot. The river is more secluded, providing perfect conditions for a relaxing weekend. Despite Meramac’s slower pace, there are plenty of ways to make your own fun.

“My family owns a property by the Meramec River, so every year my family travels to kayak on the river, drive ATVs and set off lots of fireworks,” senior Lexi Bross said.

Although it is always exciting to travel, many of us may be planning to enjoy Labor Day from the comforts of their own home.

“Most years, we host a barbecue with my whole family, so we can catch up on life. There are a lot of personalities in my family, so there is never a dull moment when we get together. I’m also looking forward to seeing my cousin since I haven’t seen her in forever!” senior Kennedy Jones said.

Whether you are traveling far away or having a “stay-cation,” Labor Day is an excellent time to spend quality time with your loved ones and create long-lasting memories!
