One Last At-Bat: Baseball Senior Night
Senior night is an important night for any sport. This past Tuesday, May 11, the varsity baseball team celebrated their five seniors in their last home game. These athletes were thanked for their four years of dedication and hard work on and off the diamond.
Five seniors were honored on senior night: Carson Prescott, Landon Buchheit, Andrew Belarde, Ryan Bodmer and Gabe Serri. These players have displayed hard work and dedication throughout their four years at St. Dominic, both on the field and in the classroom as well.
Prescott and Buchheit are both taking their baseball careers to the next level in college. Prescott has signed to play at William Woods University and Buchheit will play at St. Charles Community College. Serri will also be taking his athletic talent with him at Benedictine University to play football.
The team ended their regular season on Wednesday, May 13 against Fort Zumwalt East with a tough loss. The team has faced some adversity this season with the loss of key players like junior Grant Richars and more recently, Buchheit. However, this won’t stop the Crusaders from doing all they can to secure their spot as district champs in their upcoming game on May 18.
The baseball team finished first in their division after ending their regular season with a record of 11-8 and going into district with a winning attitude.
“I think our team is playing our best ball right now, and we are in a good spot to make a run. This season ended well, and we won a good amount of games over the stretch of these last couple of weeks,” Serri said.
We wish these seniors the best of luck in the next chapter of their lives and the rest of their postseason. Make sure to watch the baseball boys in their district championship game in person or on the livestream on May 18 at 4pm against Bowling Green at Winfield High School.
