Track is Taking Over
The last of the winter weather is finally dying down, and our St. Dominic spring sports are in high gear. One team in particular that’s had quite the season thus far is our varsity girls track and field team. These girls have taken first in not one, not two, but all FIVE of the meets they’ve been in—including the first home meet in two years!
The team has over 50 athletes this year competing in the many different events of track. One event category that has been hugely successful is the relays, including the 4 by 8, 4 by 2 and 4 by 1.
“I’ll be honest, I’m not completely sure how we’ve done this well in the season, but I think it has to do with how well our team works together. These girls this year are all dedicated to doing their best every meet, which shows in the scores we get,” Marut said.
The field events have also been very successful throughout these meets. Junior Emma Hall is a part of both the shot put and javelin throw events this season, but she has had a great impact in javelin especially.
“Both shot put and javelin have been pretty good this season. I guess all our time spent in the weight room is paying off,” Hall said.
With all these team wins comes some individual victories as well. Senior pole vaulter Skylar Prescott has come into this season recently recovered from a hip surgery and vaulted St. Dominic’s personal record height of 10’00 on April 17 at MICDS.
“I go to a pole vault gym during off season to work on my vaulting, but I was still a little nervous about this season with my hip. It looks like all my work paid off though, and I’m hoping to go even higher this season,” Prescott said.
We can’t wait to see what else these girls have in store for us this season as they continue to work hard, throw far and run fast!
