Spring sports are now well underway, and boy have our athletes been busy! From the fields to the courts, our campus has been full of practices. All of our amazing spring athletes have been working hard these first few weeks of the season, and our girls lacrosse team has been especially killing the game.

The varsity team started off strong, winning all three of their games in the Howell district jamboree two weeks ago—even with some bad weather.

“The jamboree for the team didn’t have the most ideal conditions, but the girls did absolutely amazing. After seeing the jamboree, I knew this season was going to be a good one,” head coach Mrs. Newton said.

Following the jamboree, the team had a week of practice to fine tune their game and improve before their first game against Notre Dame that Friday. Not only was this the girls’ first game of the season, but it was also lacrosses’ first time ever playing a game on the stadium turf field!

“When the coaches told us we finally had lacrosse lines on the turf and that we’d be able to use the turf for our first game, our whole team got super pumped. As homey as the grass fields are for us, it is MUCH nicer to use the turf,” junior JV captain, Maggie Howard, said.

Once again, the LAX ladies crushed the competition. Varsity played first and won with a whooping 14-1 score. Following suit, JV secured a win with a score of 5-2.

The next weekend, the varsity girls played a friendly tournament at Francis Howell Central against Incarnate Word, Notre Dame and FHC. As with the previous games, our Crusaders dominated the field and won all three games in double digits, securing the win and taking home the plaque!

“While we were playing, I was trying to do some quick mental math on the sidelines. If my math is all correct, these girls scored 53 goals in 24 hours, which is absolutely insane,” assistant head coach Mrs. Goedecke said.

Those girls weren’t satisfied after that big tournament win however. Wednesday afternoon they put up another 14 on the scoreboard as they dominated Rosati-Kain 14-2.

“I was proud of the way our girls battled through the wind, cold and a scrappy Rosati team. Our leadership really stepped up and helped the team make adjustments when needed,” Coach Newton said.
