Swishing with All Stars
The annual NBA All Star Game was held in Atlanta this past Sunday, March 7. However, this year’s All Star activities were drastically different than last year due to COVID-19. Nevertheless, some of the best in basketball were able to battle it out and show off their skills.
This past Sunday was jam packed with basketball. In what is normally a weekend full of festivities, the All Star Game and three other skill competitions were held in one super-sized TV event.
The All Star game featured a head to head matchup between Team LeBron and Team Durant. Team LeBron was made up by some big names like Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Donicic and more. Team Durant showcased players like Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, Jayson Tatum and many others.
In the end, Team LeBron was able to secure a 170-150 win over Team Durant for the fourth year in a row. Antetokounmpo was on fire Sunday night achieving a perfect shooting record of 16-16 and dominating the court with a total of 35 points scored. Because of this, the “Greek Freak” was awarded the Kobe Bryant All Star MVP Trophy after the game.
“Having an award named after Kobe Bryant in my house is a great feeling… I know he would be happy,” Antetokounmpo said.
Curry also had an incredible night for Team LeBron as he crushed Team Durant from behind the arc shooting 8-16. However, Damian Lillard was able to match Curry’s record and score 32 points for Team LeBron compared to Curry’s 28. Lillard was even able to sink a shot from half court with 20 seconds left in the quarter.
For Team Durant, Irving dominated the court putting up 24 points and 12 assists making it look easy as he carved up Team Lebron’s defense. James Harden and Bradley Beal were excellent when it came to shooting threes. Combined, they knocked down 13 three-pointers and were the only players on Team Durant to score at least 20 points individually.
Overall, spirits were high for both teams and laughter was constant throughout the game. Even team captain LeBron James threw down a reverse slam dunk to show off his skills and have fun.
However, the NBA All Star Game was not just for showing off. For winning, Team LeBron earned $1.25 million dollars, which will be going to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Team Durant was also awarded $500,000 in which they will donate to the United Negro College Fund.
This fun filled night was not the end! The NBA season is halfway done so make sure you keep up with the action by watching your favorite teams compete all the way to the championship playoffs starting May 22. If you missed out on the All Star game, click below to watch the incredible highlights.
