Both the St. Dominic Crusader swim team and basketball team celebrated their senior nights together before the Varsity girls basketball game on February 18th.

Senior night is a tradition celebrated by many high school sports teams. The team recognizes the graduating seniors by giving them gifts, and sharing some of their favorite memories. This usually occurs at the last home event, giving the seniors a proper goodbye to the place they’ve called home the last four years. However, due to a crazy week of weather, both the lady swimmers and basketball athletes decided to celebrate together before the basketball girls’ last regular season home game.

“It was cool to celebrate alongside the swim team because I have friends on the team!” basketball senior Kennedy Mueller said.

The teams may seem different at first, especially considering the two seniors on varsity basketball compared to the swimmers fifteen seniors. However, their festivities were similar as both teams walked to center court with their parents and received a gift from their respective teams.

“I received flowers and a little gift bag with candy and a Target gift card,” swim senior Claire Sullivan said.

No matter what the seniors received, senior night was a success! However, for the seniors of the basketball team, the season isn’t over yet, as the postseason begins with districts the first week of March.

“We’re feeling prepared for districts and ready to compete further into the postseason. We’ve been coming together as a team and have gotten significantly better throughout the year. We’re ready to finish strong,” senior Jessie Blaine said.

While the basketball girls continue to practice hard, swim season has finally come to an end. For senior Kallie Nero, it ended this past Saturday at the state meet. After a tough season, it was a well-deserved goodbye to the sport she loved.

“This whole season has been amazing. Despite COVID, we were able to train and work hard leading up to state. Everyone truly put in their best efforts at every meet and practice and their hard work definitely showed. State was the perfect ending to my swimming career. Although I may not have gone the times I wanted, I was able to medal in the 100 fly and share the moment with my amazing teammates. I can’t believe that swimming is over but I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!” Nero said.

As these seniors finish their respective seasons and last semester of high school, we wish them the best of luck and are so blessed that we had the chance to celebrate them one last time.
