Hyped For Hockey

The St. Dominic Athletic Department is welcoming a hockey team this next school year!

It was announced that St. Dominic is going to have a hockey team starting this coming school year! This came as quite a shock to a lot of students—nobody knew if it was happening for sure, but we couldn’t be more excited.

“I’m so excited because I have been dreaming of playing ice hockey for my whole life. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and I am elated. I have been working on my stick and puck getting ready for the DREAM. It’s all I ever think about; it’s my life now,” junior Evan Cornett said.

All the plans are still in the beginning stage. There will be an interest meeting with students in March, to see how many of our next-year students are interested in the new program.

“We want to see how many students we have before we see the number of teams,” Mr. Roberts, director of athletics, said.

Soon after, there will be a parent meeting to inform them of all the logistics that go along with the team. It’s important that we’re all on the same page about what’s happening next year!

“After that, there will be three nights of ‘open ice,’ or stick and puck, for prospective players to come out and skate around for a little bit,” Mr. Roberts said.

Those will be three Wednesday nights in April for an hour.

“I am excited for the team, I think it is going to be a lot of fun! Can’t wait to see if we are any good,” junior Brennon Schultz said.

There is no coach as of right now, but there will hopefully be one very soon.  Our athletics department is currently on the lookout for the best fit for our program.

“We will work with Midstates for scheduling games, but our practices will be held in Wentzville ice rink,” Mr. Roberts said.

Everyone is super excited for this new addition to the sports team! Stay tuned for more information.
