Discovering a New Streaming Service

Discovery Plus, which launched January 4th, has tons of new and original content for just $4.99 a month

Move over Disney! The Discovery Channel recently came out with its own streaming service named Discovery+. It features channels such as Food Network, TLC, Planet Earth and HGTV.

The service launched on January 4 worldwide. The starting price is set at $4.99, but you can upgrade to $6.99 for an ad-free experience if you’d prefer. However, Verizon users are in luck! Through a partnership between Verizon and Discovery, customers will receive a year of ad-free Discovery+.

“I actually got Disney+ through Verizon which expired this year, so my family got Discovery+. It has a lot of good shows, and it’s easy to use,” junior Liv Knobbe said.

Just like Disney+, Discovery+ will have a plethora of new and original shows, including four new 90 Day Fiancé seasons, a new Long Island Medium series, several new House Hunters seasons and Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network previews such as Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, Bobby and Gilda in Italy.

“I haven’t gotten Discovery+ yet, but they have a lot of my favorite channels, so I’m excited to get it!” junior Cadence Bell said.

The streaming service is available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and all other Apple devices. Each account can have up to five profiles, with four people watching at the same time.

During quarantine, the demand for at-home streaming services boomed. With a new variety of content, will Discovery+ take over the streaming network and put Netflix and Disney+ in the dust? Start with a 7-day free trial to find out!
