Giving Thanks and Welcoming Rozanski
Tuesday marks an exciting time for the St. Dominic community, as the newly elected Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski will celebrate our annual Thanksgiving mass. This is the Archbishop’s first visit to St. Dominic, and a great opportunity for students and faculty to welcome him with open arms.
The tradition of inviting the Archbishop to celebrate mass has been going on for years, and is always a special time for the community. Many people are eager for his arrival this year.
Because this is Archbishop Rozanski’s first visit to St. Dominic, it is important that all students give a good first impression to make him feel welcome and possibly earn a special surprise. In previous years, the Archbishop has been known to give a prize like an extra day off to high schools who fully participate in mass.
“I think the best thing we can do is to put our best foot forward; to make sure we are on our best behavior and best dressed. If we are lucky, he may give us a day off,” Fr. Patrick said.
While the day off would be very nice for students and faculty, that isn’t the only important thing about this mass. The annual Thanksgiving mass at St. Dominic is a time to reflect and give thanks to God for all the ways He has blessed us.
“I would say that it’s always best to prepare for Mass just by finding a little bit of quiet time. At Mass we find ourselves before God’s presence. Sometimes it is easy to forget that. We live such busy and hectic lives. It is good to slow down and realize that Mass is a special time to be with God,” Fr. Patrick said.
So make sure to wear your mass dress and participate in mass on Tuesday to welcome Archbishop Rozanski to St. Dominic for the first time ever!
