Halloween is iconic with it’s candy, costumes and scary movies, but a necessity for spooky season is haunted houses! Sadly, many are closed due to COVID-19, but we can still make the best of the situation with the venues doing what they can to keep the spooky spirit alive.

The Darkness

The Darkness is located in St. Louis, and has been scaring people for over 25 years! This haunted adventure was established in 1994. They entertain people through their haunted house, monster party room and escape rooms that are right next door.

“I can’t wait to walk through there, I’ve heard that it’s one of the best haunted houses in the state!” senior Mike Thompson said.

If you go online to their website, they have different deals and prices depending on what attractions you want to do, or how early you get your tickets. They operate every night of the week, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Cobb Factory

The Cobb Factory in Old Monroe is still up and running, and their staff is ready to go! On their website, it gives a backstory on the haunted factory that Eli Cobb was last seen in. It is $25 per person, but $35 for a fast pass to let you skip the line. Masks are not required, but there is the option of wearing one.

“I’ve always loved The Cobb Factory, and since I live in Old Monroe it’s not too far from my house. Obviously it’s going to look different this year, but I’m still super excited to get to go,” senior Cate Cato said.

During your wait time, there are characters that make the time fly by entertaining you. They still have to social distance, but hopefully they can still give you a good scare! A walk through the haunted house is estimated to be around 20 minutes long, and they’re open Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“The Cobb was very entertaining with a lot of jump scares. Definitely worth the money,” junior Harland Bross said.

Fright Fest/Hallowfest

Six Flags Fright Fest is looking a little bit different this year including a new name: “Hallowfest”! Hallowfest will feature “thrills by day,” which includes family friendly activities, and “chills by night,” with rides in the dark on monster coasters and a haunted Halloween theme throughout the park. The monsters will not be on foot chasing you this year, but instead have their own monster area. Masks are required to be worn at all times, and they will be doing temperature checks regularly.

“I am excited to go to Fright Fest, because it has always been a tradition to go with my family. And, now I get to enjoy it with friends!” junior Jessica Locke said.

A lot of the other popular haunted houses are closed, but nonetheless, you still have these three options to get you ready and into the Halloween spirit!
