Hurricane Laura is on the radar. Before it strikes Louisiana

Hurricane season started on May 15th, and lasts until November 30th. This hurricane season has already had multiple deadly hurricanes, and there are still many more to come.

“This year’s hurricane season calls for a range of 13 to 19 named storms, of which 10 could become hurricanes, including six major hurricanes,” The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said.

The most recent hurricane is Hurricane Laura, which struck the Louisiana coastline and parts of Texas. It started as a Category 4, and has just recently weakened to a Category 2. We all hope that it continues to decrease in size over the fall season.

The aftermath of Hurricane Laura is truly tragic— already leaving more than 340,000 people without power, and 16 deaths since last reported on Saturday, August 29. Over half of the deaths were caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.

In the beginning of June, the tropical storm “Cristobal” struck the northern Gulf of Mexico. This storm spread all the way through Central America, causing strong winds, major storms and even some tornadoes. Tropical Storm Cristobal tragically caused four fatalities.

As hurricane season continues, be sure to send out prayers and thoughts during these tragic storms. Remember to always be grateful for what you have, and continue to help those who need it.
