NFL Draft Overview

The NFL Draft has no shortage of talent this year.

April 23-25 marked this year’s NFL Draft, where the National Football League made history with the first ever Virtual Draft. Roger Goodell announced each pick from the comfort of his own home, as they even had live look-ins at each team’s front office working from home. Here’s a quick overview of some of the best and worst picks this year.

To start off on a good pick, we have to travel down south, all the way to Tampa Bay, who selected Tristan Wirfs, an offensive lineman, as their first pick. This pick suits them well, as they had a struggling offensive line last year and, with the new addition of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, they were looking to turn things around this year.

Another good draft was the Cincinnati Bengals. Their first two picks were at number one and number 33. With those picks, they chose National Champion and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow and Clemson wide receiver Tee Higgins. Setting themselves up for a lethal combination in the future, this route looks to be a good one for them right now.

There were many teams who may not have drafted according to how others saw fit for them, and probably the biggest of them all was the Green Bay Packers. Their first round pick shocked many Packer fans, as they selected Utah State quarterback Jordan Love. Aaron Rodgers still has two years left on his contract, so this pick was a surprise for sure.

Another team with a questionable draft was the Chicago Bears. They were limited to two second round picks after their trade from Khalil Mack two years prior. Their two picks in this round were Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet and cornerback Jaylon Johnson. Both of these players are going to be forced into a playing role next season, so we will see if they were good picks or not.

To recap, this year’s NFL Draft was a special one, with many teams picking up key pieces to their team in the first few rounds of the draft. Players like Tee Higgins and Jalen Hurts were both second round picks, even after having impressive college careers, so it will be exciting to see just how well these players pan out in their NFL careers.
