Vaca or Stay
Since corona came along, many plans have been unexpectedly cancelled, including vacations. Students and staff alike are all feeling the effects of corona on their spring and summer plans. Some trips have already been cancelled, some are on the edge of being cancelled and others are hopeful that they will still get to go on their long anticipated vacations.
Many St. Dominic students had amazing vacations planned for the week of spring break. This includes the St. Dominic trip to the Holy Land. All of these trips clearly had to be cancelled or pushed back due to the virus, leaving many students and staff upset.
“I am very upset that I am not able to visit Mexico during spring break. I understand that there are other times that we can visit later on, so I am staying positive,” freshman Helen McKnight said.
While many students and faculty are upset about their cancelled vacations, they are still hoping to reschedule to a later date. Others are still hopeful that they will get to take their summer trips, but also a little nervous.
“I’m feeling a bit anxious about our upcoming vacation to California. It’s supposed to be filled with many highly populated places like Disneyland, Universal Studios and three different baseball parks. At this point, none of them are open, the MLB hasn’t even started playing games. I’m nervous that they won’t open or that only part of them will open and we won’t have the experience that we were hoping for,” director of admissions Bobbie Peters said.
Even if vacations later in the year are able to happen, they could still look very different. Many of the cancelled spring break and early summer trips are being rescheduled for late June and July. This could potentially affect students with trips later in the summer. Another thing that could look very different is vacation and social distancing. Many of the hottest vacation spots are putting rules in place for social distancing and ways to stay extra sanitary. These potential guidelines could completely change the way we vacation.
Overall, corona has ruined many plans and anticipated vacations. But even during this pandemic, we need to stay hopeful. Eventually everything will reopen, and we can all take those highly anticipated vacations at a later date. Until then, continue having fun with your family and trying new things in this quarantine.
