Chip Off the Old App

The Independent

Flappy Bird was highly addicting and a fun time waster.

While new apps are constantly created every day and climbing up the App Store charts, there are always some that are more iconic than others. Here are some old favorites you might have forgotten about.

Dubsmash

Before there was TikTok and Music.ly, there was Dubsmash. The app allowed users to make lip sync videos, and middle school us loved doing just that. In 2015, Dubsmash seemed to be the next Vine; however, newer social media apps took its top spot. The video making app is still available on the App Store.

Flappy Bird

While this game is no longer available, Flappy Bird was all the craze in early 2014. The game was simple: tap to keep the bird from hitting the green pipes. However, the game proved to be extremely difficult and highly addicting. As quickly as the game became popular, it was taken off the App Store due to plagiarism critiques. Flappy Bird will continue to live on in our memories (and old devices).

Flipagram

A few years ago, there was no better way to make a birthday collage or summer recap video than utilizing Flipagram. While the app allowed users to publish videos within, many used the app to post on other apps like Instagram. The app was later sold and is now rebranded as Vigo Video.

Temple Run

Temple Run was a first of its kind. The endless runner game kept the player engaged for hours, trying to collect coins and beat personal bests. The game gained so much popularity that the creators spawned a sequel dubbed Temple Run 2 with more abilities, obstacles and characters. The iconic game has led to copycat games such as Subway Surfers and Minion Rush. While these games may be popular, none can compare to Temple Run.

While all these apps may not be available anymore, they served their time well. With all the extra time on your hands because of quarantine, perhaps re-download some old favorite games or look for your middle school dance videos. You never know what you could find.
