Senior Service Suggestions
The end of the school year is quickly approaching. Whether you’re an underclassman with plenty of time, a junior needing to decide or a senior scrambling for hours, these senior service project ideas are the perfect places to earn all 25 hours you need at one non-for-profit organization.
Christpower
Every summer, St. Joseph in Cottleville’s youth group invites all high schoolers to attend Christpower, a week-long, faith-centered service camp. This year, Christpower is June 14-20. During the day, groups split up and typically go to a nursing home, help out with kids, evangelize in the community, work at St. Joe kids’ camp and spend time washing or cleaning. After doing service, everyone comes back together to pray and participate in fun activities such as a shaving cream fight.
This is an easy opportunity to have fun with your friends and strengthen your relationship with God, so make sure to ask someone who goes to St. Joe youth group for more information.

Camp Rainbow
Camp Rainbow is an organization in Chesterfield that provides summer camp opportunities for children with cancer and blood-related illnesses. Volunteers are paired with one camper and become their buddy for the week, helping their camper have fun while having fun themselves!
Some activities you and your camper will do are rock climbing, swimming and bouncing on bungee trampolines. Lots of volunteers love the experience so much that they come back each and every year. The volunteer application window has already been closed for next summer, but mark your calendars for the years after that.

Every Child’s Hope
Every Child’s Hope is a home and rehabilitation center for kids who have gone through trauma or are in crisis. They also have a preschool on the St. Charles Rock Road campus. You can contact Sarah Deweese at [email protected] or 314-427-3755 x299 to help out with administrative duties, work at their year-round “store” for the children or set up times to help at the preschool. The kids love having volunteers and will talk to you about everything. This is a perfect opportunity if you cannot set aside a whole week for your service project, or if you want to make a difference but would rather not interact with too many people.
Five Acres Animal Shelter
Five Acres Animal Shelter is the only no-kill shelter in St. Charles County and is always looking for volunteers to help walk dogs, clean kennels and play with cats, among many other things. They also have special events you can help out with such as youth outreach events or AniMeals Food Pantry program. If you love animals, this is the perfect way for you to give back to the community!

Whichever organization you choose to devote your time to, know you are making a difference, no matter how menial your tasks may be. In addition to that, remember to look for Christ in everyone you meet, and know that ultimately, your service glorifies Him.
