Saving a Life One Drop at a Time
The most satisfying feeling is giving back to people who are in need. On February 14, you have the opportunity to do just that. That day, St. Dominic’s student council is hosting a blood drive for cancer patients who rely on people who are willing to donate their blood. This is an opportunity to not only help save an innocent life, but a chance to really be involved in our community.
No one is guaranteed another day on earth, but the chances of making it to tomorrow are much more slim for cancer patients who are in need of blood transfusions almost every day. Many of these kids and adults have to be in an environment constantly surrounded by needles and white walls. Blood supply is never something that is guaranteed to be unlimited, so that is why we need your help to make sure that these patients can see tomorrow!
Donors will receive a free t-shirt and snacks for signing up and donating. Of course, there are requirements for being able to donate such as making sure you aren’t iron deficient, weighing at least 110 pounds, being at least 16 years old with parental consent or 17 years old without parental consent and being in good health. Make sure to check these all off before you sign up so that there will be plenty of time for qualified donors to donate.
There will be several times of the day where you can sign up to donate, so if you’re worried about it fitting your schedule, don’t be. If you need any more information, there are many flyers posted around St. Dominic with answers to every question you might have.
Every day is a huge blessing that God has provided and entrusted us with, so we should use our gifts and talents to help each other. Thank you all in advance for donating or trying to donate. You will not regret it for a second, and, remember, if you can’t donate, there are many other ways to help out in the community and beyond.
