Mock Trial is Underway
On Tuesday evening, our very own Mock Trial team here at St. Dominic, led by Mr. Jason Asher, showed off their hard work at the St. Louis County Courthouse. Despite an unfortunate loss to DeSmet, the students have another trial in February and an opportunity to move on to the regional round of competition.
Mock Trial tends to be a months-long process when it comes to getting everything organized and putting it together. The case gets released in October, and the team has a lot of work to do before going to court. They have to construct cases for the plaintiff and defense and choose who will take on the roles of witnesses and lawyers, as well as who will create opening statements, direct and cross examinations and closing arguments. At the trial, the team represented the plaintiff, and later on they will represent the defense.
Two years ago, the Crusaders advanced to the state level at the Eagleton Courthouse downtown. With hopes to make it to the state level once again, the team is doing their very best to juggle the trial with their busy lives, and they put in hard work every single day.
“We’ve faced some struggles this year with everyone being able to meet, which likely contributed to us losing. I still appreciate all of the work our team has put in,” Asher said.
Aside from their loss on Tuesday, the Crusader Mock Trial team continues to work hard and prepare for their trial in February. Congratulate the team on their efforts so far this year, and try to come out and support them at their next trial in February at the St. Louis County Courthouse.
