Lenten Fish Fry: Which is the best?
During Lent, Catholics are always looking for the best deal on a fish fry. What actually constitutes the best deal? The cheapest price, the most amount of food for your money, or the best tasting fish? All should be taken into consideration.
Several fish fries in the area are well known. The fish fry at Immaculate Conception Dardenne is considered one of the best because it is all-you-can-eat. Coffee, water and tea are included; however, if you want a soft drink, that will cost you extra. But they have great desserts, offer takeout service and even have a drive-through!
St. Patrick’s in Wentzville is another buffet option, and they have three different types of fish. At St. Patrick’s, you must preorder your tickets, and you can get carry out if you prefer.
If you’re up for a drive, St. Ferdinand in Florissant has similar food offerings as ICD, but offers several more options as well. At St. Ferdinand, you pay per the pound and for each of your sides. However, it is not all-you-can-eat.
The Knights of Columbus in Cottleville offers two kinds of fish–catfish and baked fish–along with two sides, a drink and dessert. Again, this is not a buffet; rather, you are served your food, which is a nice touch.
In conclusion, if you are really hungry, you should probably go to Immaculate Conception: it is all-you-can-eat for one price with lots of side options. If you are looking for takeout, any of the four options would be a good choice. St. Ferdinand has a great menu, but can get pricey depending on what you order. You should really try all four this Lenten season and decide for yourself which is the best.
