Deck the Halls With Plates of Turkey: Too Early For Christmas Music?
Though most people associate the holiday season with love and cheer, it also brings up one of the most controversial questions into conversation: when should we start listening to Christmas music?
Many enjoy jumping right into the Christmas spirit as soon as fall starts. To them, the chilly weather means “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas,” though arguments erupt from some with the thought of Christmas music that early.
There is a large following of people, including many mothers and those who find the holiday season a little more stressful, who do not believe that Christmas tunes should be played until after Thanksgiving.
On the other hand, there are also the hard core Christmas fanatics who listen to their favorite jingles year round. The melodious Christmas music allows them to keep the spirit of Christmas alive for the entire year.
From the people who blast the Christmas music all year to those who are not fond of the pieces till a a few weeks before, each and every one of these opinions are valid and has value.
Personally, I try not to play Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. By doing this, I get to enjoy every day in between without jumping straight into the holiday season; therefore, I can savor Christmas time even more when it is here.
That being said, I occasionally indulge in listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving or even in the middle of the summer!
So, deciding when to start singing “Last Christmas” or “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is completely up to you! With Thanksgiving next week and Christmas about 30 days away, it is about time we all start easing into the Christmas spirit.
