Basketball Back on the Court
Practices have been going on for a couple of weeks now, and the boys and girl’s basketball teams are getting ready for their first games.
Both varsity teams played in a jamboree this past week. Each team played two six-minute quarters against three teams. The purpose of the jamborees are to help coaches see what their players need to focus on at practices in order to be as prepared as possible for the first season game.
The girl’s jamboree was on Tuesday, November 19 against MICDS, Principia and Park Hills. Even with new additions added to the team, the girls are playing well together and have been a strong team off the bat. The Lady Crusaders improved each quarter they played, and the offense was run very well.
“I am very excited to see the growth of this team from last year. They all worked really hard in the offseason, so we are all excited to see the hard work pay off,” head coach Jeff Menke said.
With such a young team, seniors Mercedes Little, Tori Forbeck and Natalie Schellert are working to lead their team to a successful season.
The boys team dominated in their jamboree, as they were the only team to win all three matches against Cape Notre Dame, Parkway Central and Troy. They had spectacular communication and moved well around the court.
With so many seniors graduating last year, many younger players have joined. Senior Kyle Crawford is the only senior on the court, so he is stepping up and filling the leadership role of the team.
“It’s a new group and new personalities, so I’m excited to see what they can do,” head coach Kevin Roberts said.
