We Have Built a Beautiful City: Godspell Hits the Stage this Weekend
This weekend, the Crusader Players bring a new take on the ‘70s classic Godspell to the St. Dominic stage. Since September, over 70 St. Dominic students have been working tirelessly to create a show that is both unique and meaningful.
This musical is a special one for our school to perform for two reasons. First, the show is centered around Jesus’ teachings and the discipleship that each of us is called to, promoting a message of faith and love that is a blessing for us to be able to share onstage. Second, the concept for this show is an entirely unique idea created especially by director Melfreya Findley.
“I wanted to make it a little more modern and relatable to high school students and to the everyday public, so that’s why we set it in a theatre. God brought together a hodgepodge of people in the original Godspell and in the original 12 disciples, and theatre’s kind of a hodgepodge of people from everywhere… Hopefully everybody gets that concept and can see that we really are all together just one in God’s eyes and one community as that beautiful city,” Mrs. Findley said.
While the concept is very close to the hearts of everyone involved, even more meaningful is the overall message of the show.
“You take these stories you’ve heard all your life and you just kind of brush them off. But then being able to hear them in both a funny way and a more modern way just kind of puts the message on your heart more. It’s a completely different experience when you take it and act it out. Being given this opportunity to bring this message to others is one that I’m extremely grateful for,” senior Grace Hill said.
Cast, crew, band and directors are all extremely proud to be a part of such an amazing show! We hope you can make it out to become part of a “Beautiful City” tonight and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. or Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the PAC. To everyone involved with the show, break a leg!
