The boys’ soccer team dominated their district championship game on Tuesday, going all the way to shootouts in a thrilling game from start to finish.

Although the score was 0-0 through regulation, the game was still intense. The teams traded blows with crazy plays throughout the game. Some of these plays even turned dirty, as senior Malik Maroney suffered a lip injury after one of the Liberty soccer players kicked for the ball, but accidentally kicked Maroney’s face instead, who was taken to the hospital following this incident.

Other than some gritty plays throughout, the game was a joy to watch. Junior goaltender Will Nicholson seemed to be locked in, making some solid saves with help from a great defense from the entire team. A hundred and ten minutes later, the penalty shootouts became the deciding factor.

The teams traded goals the first round of PK’s, but once the second round came in, Nicholson made another great save to kick the Crusaders into the driver’s seat, who eventually won the game.

“It was tied all the way through double overtime and was the most insane game I’ve ever watched,” senior Brendan Taylor said.

With such amazing talent on the field from both teams, we are so proud of our boys for securing the 27th district championship in the school’s history. They turn around to their first round of sectionals against either Washington or Rolla at home on November 12
