Cross Country Girls Run Their Way to State
This past weekend, cross country participated in districts. On Saturday, the varsity girls came out on top, winning the Class 3 District 3 championship and securing their team spot at state. Every place counted, as the girls only pulled ahead to win by two points.
There were three girls who medaled individually at the meet: senior Jessica Bodmer placed third, freshman Addie Biehl placed fifth and freshman Paige Conoyer placed ninth. Although she didn’t place overall, junior Brenna Riebel secured a season best this past weekend. Joining those four runners are sophomore Sophie Green, senior Emma Henke and sophomore Molly Albrecht. Over the past few months, the girls have ran a plethora of courses, gaining knowledge of how to approach each unique course and meet.
Aside from qualifying, the runners are also excited to run the new state course. In prior years, the course has been on a golf course in Jefferson City, but this year there is a brand new course in Columbia that was built specifically for cross country. This Friday, the girls are going down the day before the meet to run the course and get accustomed to the new route. The girls will race late Saturday morning.
On Friday afternoon, there will be a state send-off in the gym. The seven girls have worked hard and ran their tails off throughout this season so far, and they aren’t ready to give up yet. Make sure to grab a friend and come to support the girls this weekend!
