Varsity soccer celebrated their senior night with a little bit of a twist this year: the game was also a fundraiser against brain cancer called Angels Among Us created by our very own senior Clay North.

The boys played Chaminade, and both teams wore shirts to support the cause. KSDK 5 contacted senior soccer player Tanner King because of a connection through his brother, asking to cover the story of Angels Among Us for their segment “Making a Difference.” KSDK 5 came out during a practice and at the game, and they plan on airing the segment Sunday, November 3.

“I am so excited about the segment because I can show the St. Louis area that if you have a dream and a passion for something, you can go as big as you wish,” North said.

North sold shirts all week at school and held a raffle at the game. The raffle was split 50/50, with the winner receiving one half of the profits while Angels Among Us got the other half. A gigantic check was presented at halftime in front of the fans, announcing that North raised an astonishing $10,000 to donate to brain cancer research.

“It was beyond even my wildest dreams that I would have raised $10,000 in an event I was not even sure was going to happen. The fact that I was able to raise so much really brings a smile to my face, and I know my uncle [who passed away from brain cancer] is also smiling down on me too. That is something words cannot describe,” North said.

The players fought hard and scored on a beautiful headball by junior Gavin Kalish, finishing the half at a tie of 1-1. The Crusaders ended the game with a 3-1 loss, but the real winner of the night was Angels Among Us because of the fantastic success the fundraiser had. The fundraiser definitely made for a very memorable senior night for our Crusaders, with lots of moments to cherish and remember.

Luckily, the soccer season isn’t over yet, as the boys have districts on Saturday at Liberty. The team will be practicing extremely hard in order to be prepared to overcome any obstacles that come their way, so don’t forget to come out and support them!
