The postseason for the Cardinals has been anything but smooth. The Cards have posted a 3-5 record so far and have seemed to struggle on the offensive side of the baseball.

At the plate there have been flashes of good play, but overall the Cardinals haven’t really shown the offense we know they have. They haven’t been hitting the ball, and have been relying on base running and pitching to pull them through. In their five losses, they have posted a total of three runs combined. If they want to turn things around, it’s going to have to start at the plate.

Pitching has been the bright spot for most of the postseason. The first series was carried by the pitching staff until game five, where the team broke out for 13 runs in the first four innings. The first two games of the current series saw Miles Mikolas and Adam Wainwright pitch fantastic games only to get no run support. The staff struggled a bit last night, with the tough Nationals team picking them apart and scoring eight runs. However, once again the Cardinals did nothing with their bats.

Overall, though, the play by the Cardinals just hasn’t been good enough to take a game yet from the Nationals. They just haven’t had the run production needed to win in the post season and if they want to pull off the miracle comeback, that has to change immediately against the tough Patrick Corbin tonight. 

Though the Cardinals season doesn’t look good at the moment, fans hang on to the hope that they can still turn it around and steal a game tonight at 7:15 in Washington. After all they have to win one before they can win four.
