Stuck on the Sidelines
As most (if not all) of the school knows, St. Dominic’s junior quarterback Gabe Serri suffered from a serious injury a couple weeks ago while playing against St. Mary’s. He dislocated his ankle and ended up finding out that he had also broken his tibia. Gabe will be out for quite a while, including the rest of the season.
“The hardest part about suffering from such a big injury is knowing that the rest of my junior football season is over, and I have to wait almost a full year before my next game. I love being out on the field, so it’s hard to let it go for a little bit,” Gabe said.
Gabe’s teammates have also been struggling with him being out, but have been trying to keep spirits high by hanging out with him.
“My teammates have been visiting me on the weekends and spending time with me because I can’t drive. It’s really nice to have them here supporting me,” Gabe said.
Gabe is planning on making a full recovery, as he has had surgery and is going into therapy as soon as possible. He has gotten a boot, and should be able to walk on his leg in about a month and a half.
“I am currently on doctor’s orders to not put any weight on it for the next six weeks, even after I’ve gotten a boot on instead of my cast. After that I will be able to lightly walk on it and hopefully return to light athletics by early December,” Gabe said.
Gabe should be fully back by baseball season, so be sure to go out and see him in action. In the meantime, thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated!
