Leaving a Legacy: Palmatier Stands in the Hall of Fame
Last June, senior and starting goalkeeper Alli Palmatier helped lead the 2019 St. Dominic girls’ soccer team to the Class 3 State Championship. This fall, Alli is being honored by the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame for the hard work and tremendous effort she put into the season.
Alli was announced as a Bob Kehoe Future Soccer Star over the summer. The recipient of this award is chosen by members of the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame, who watch many St. Louis soccer games throughout the high school season and choose two junior boys and girls who exemplify amazing soccer potential and are standouts in their school and community.
Fittingly, she learned of this special honor as she was aiding her community at Whole Kids Outreach, a service organization in Reynolds County, Missouri.
“I got a phone call from my mom telling me to call a certain number, so I was like… ok… I’ll do that. I actually got the news in the middle of a Steak ‘n Shake, which was insane. It kind of seemed like I was in a dream because I never really expected anything like this to happen, but I was really excited,” Palmatier said.
Alli is a self-proclaimed soccer junkie, following soccer stories on social media and reading books about soccer 24/7.
“My favorite part about this is being able to make a real connection with people within the St. Louis soccer community and learn more history about what soccer means to St. Louis. Also, I’m excited to be able to see how soccer is growing with the new MLS team and how that is going to affect everything soccer in St. Louis,” Palmatier said.
In a bonus opportunity for this year’s recipients, she was recognized with the rest of the 2019 class of inductees at halftime of the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team game at Busch Stadium on September 10.
“It was a really cool opportunity. Within our little suite that we had, I got to meet former U.S. Women’s National Team player Ruth Parker and have a conversation with her. She was on the first USWNT ever… I think there were about 20,000 people in attendance, so it was a surreal moment,” Palmatier said.
Alli is being officially inducted into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame on October 11 during the 2019 Hall of Fame Banquet. She is joining two other St. Dominic alums who have earned the honor in the past. We can’t wait to see Alli finish out her St. Dominic soccer career and move on to play at Lindenwood University. Join us in congratulating her on this prestigious honor!
