Birds Look to Beat the Braves

The St. Louis Cardinals 2019 regular season was crazy, to say the least. After many ups and downs, the Cardinals finished in first in the NL Central, with a record of 91-71. The Birds are now heading to the NLDS to face the Atlanta Braves, who led the NL East with a record of 97-65.

The Cardinals are entering the postseason drowning in young players. Many players on the roster are rookies, including Dakota Hudson and Tommy Edman. These young players hope to make an impact in this series, continuing their great play that propelled them to make the postseason roster.

Jack Flaherty will throw for the Cardinals in game one. He enters the NLDS with an 11-8 record, posting a 2.75 ERA on the season. In the last month, though, he has absolutely dominated. He threw 44 innings, posting a 3-1 record, with an amazing 0.82 ERA. He will be a key factor in this series, since he has the possibility to start two games if the series goes to five or more games.

Tommy Edman also has been making an impact this season, leading the team with a .304 average in 326 at-bats. Because he leads off many games, he doesn’t have many opportunities to drive in runs, ending the season with 36 RBI’s. However, this doesn’t take away from the impact he has made, being one of the Cardinals most reliable fielders.

The Cardinals head into the postseason on a roll, taking over the NL Central in the last two months. Team play on both the offensive and defensive side has been stellar, and they hope to keep the great play rolling into the postseason. The series begins tonight at 4:02 p.m. as the Cardinals visit Atlanta.
