Field Hockey Fun

Girls’ field hockey season is in full swing here at St. Dominic. The team has already played a few games and a tournament and have had a lot of exciting bonding opportunities.

A handful of new and talented players have joined the team this year, and the girls have been nothing but welcoming. The team has several games under their belts already and are looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I’m feeling good about our season. It’s been a lot of fun and we have a great group of girls so I’m really looking forward to playing more games,” senior Olivia Zaleuke said.

Zaleuke is one of the two seniors on the team this year and is also a team captain. She and senior Hannah Johnson are the team’s leaders, and they love the opportunity to build relationships with the underclass man.

Zaleuke sees the other girls as her little sisters and doesn’t want to leave them this year, but knows they will keep getting better.

“Since I have played this sport since it came to Dominic, it’s bittersweet for this to be coming to an end,” Zaleuke said.

For a lot of the girls, this is their first season on the team. The new players have been welcomed with open arms and all of the team has had the chance to enjoy a lot of fun bonding opportunities. Before the games, the girls will sing karaoke and dance to get hyped up. They have also done a little and big sister system, where they give each other gifts on special occasions.

“My favorite thing about this season so far has been bonding as a team and learning how to play a new sport with such fun girls,” junior Ashley Homyk said.

The team has had a great season so far, and everyone is looking forward to the rest of the season. Come and support the girls’ field hockey team at their upcoming senior night on September 26!
