Out With the Old, In With the New: Newest iPhone has Arrived

As of Tuesday, September 10, Apple has announced the iPhone 11, their newest phone for 2019. The brand new device has captivated Apple supporters near and far, but even with some nifty features added to this advanced edition, some question if it is worth buying as compared to other models.

The release of the iPhone 11 model includes the iPhone 11 at $699, the iPhone 11 Pro for $999 and the iPhone 11 Pro Max coming in at $1,099. Though the earlier iPhone X was advertised with similar prices, there are many benefits with the newest iPhone.

Changes for the iPhone 11 begin at the exterior. No longer is the back of the phone made of stainless steel but rather aluminum and glass, giving it a lighter feel. This new structure will also come in six new colors of black, red, white, yellow, green and purple.

Besides a new exterior design, there is also a change within the makeup of the iPhone. The iPhone 11 has a new A-13 battery, which allows one hour longer battery life than any previous Apple creations.

Though there are not many mechanical changes from the iPhone X to the iPhone 11, the leading advancement is in the camera.

The iPhone 11, which costs $699, has new wide and ultra wide cameras with faster autofocus.

The True Depth camera has a wider sensor, which means that when one is using their front facing camera, if they flip the phone to landscape, they can fit more into the picture. The ultra wide frame also allows one to see outside of their phone’s frame and take pictures with a 120 degree field of view, which is four times larger than that of any previous models. Another addition to the front facing camera is a slow motion feature for selfies.

A sixth camera addition is Night Mode. Night Mode is a fancy feature that is automatically activated when it gets dark enough. This new mode brightens pictures and reduces sound to create the perfect evening photo or video.

Although the iPhone 11 offers new colors and longer battery life, the biggest upgrades since the iPhone X are all of the high tech cameras. Many speculate that simply having better cameras as the only major advancement this year is a risky decision for Apple.

Especially since prices for the iPhone X and XR have lowered with the announcement of these new devices, some may ask: is the new iPhone worth buying?
