Red Hot Birds

In a season of ups and downs, the Saint Louis Cardinals have seen just about every outcome of a game. Recently though, the Cards have caught fire and show no signs of slowing down.

Starting off slow in the month of August, they lost five of their first six games. Getting swept in back-to-back series by the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers, the team seemed to fall apart.

The Cardinals’ pitching staff gave up 25 total runs in those games, with a team ERA of 4.8 over that span. The offense couldn’t get it going either, putting up a horrific seven runs in five games.

However, after these games, the Cardinals turned it around, losing just two games since their losing streak.

The team has posted an average of .264 and have been clicking everywhere. In their last ten games, they have won eightof them, showing the true meaning of small ball. Many players have been big factors in these victories, such as Marcell Osuna, Paul DeJong and Paul Goldschmidt.

Jack Flaherty and Dakota Hudson have also stepped up this month, winning seven games total and pitching lights out. On the offensive side, Kolton Wong has played out of this world, posting a .362 average with seven XBH and 11 RBI’s. Yadier Molina has been an anchor for the team for a while, and really showed us why these past few weeks. Coming through in many clutch situations with an average of .321 , he’s proving to us fans why we love him so much.

The Cardinals have played some tremendous baseball in the last month. Looking to make a push for the playoffs, they look to their next opponents, the Cincinnati Reds, to continue this amazing run.
