Fall Sports Preview

As the hustle and bustle of the school year begins, so do fall sports. All teams have been working hard this summer and are gearing up for their upcoming seasons.

Volleyball

The volleyball girls have been in the gym for weeks preparing and working hard to achieve their goals for the season. The team can’t wait for the season to begin! Luckily, they won’t have to wait long. The girls’ first game is Tuesday at Francis Howell High School. Junior Audrey Weber has enjoyed her two seasons playing and can’t wait for the third.

“Volleyball is such a big part of my life, and I love my team every year. They go from friends to best friends to sisters,” Weber said.

Field Hockey

This year’s field hockey team is filled with many new faces. With only a few returning upperclassmen, the team is young and hungry. Despite their age, the girls are determined to have the best season they can. The team is working hard on and off the field to grow together. Junior Elli Hagan is excited to see what the season brings and to bond with her teammates.

“We are getting to know each other and getting the feeling of the field as a team. Fingers crossed that the season is good and we pull in some wins,” Hagan said.

All the upperclassmen are stepping up and doing their part as leaders on the team, hopefully leading to a successful season.

Golf

Girl’s golf is working towards a great season. With 11 players, senior Trinity Hofstetter is excited for what’s to come.

“I am looking forward to getting to play one last season with all my favorite people. My main goal for this season is to stay positive, have my lowest average yet and move onto state one last time,“ Hofstetter said.

All the girls are practicing hard to get ready for the tough matches ahead. They are excited to see what the season holds and have high expectations, hoping to make it to state.

Cross Country

St. Dominic’s cross country runners have been going nonstop to prepare for the upcoming season, pushing themselves further every day. The runners have set high goals, and everyone is expecting great things this season. Senior Emma Henke has done cross country all four years and has loved every second of it.

“This season I am most looking forward to the meets. I love the thrill of racing and reaching goals for myself. The feeling is indescribable. I also cannot wait for the fun practices, traditions and cheering one another on at meets with my team,” Henke said.

The team is currently preparing for their upcoming meets and can’t wait to run.

Soccer

Our soccer boys have had many successful seasons in the past, and this upcoming season is going to be nothing less. The boys have worked hard in all of their practices and are ready to show what they have. Everyone is excited to see what the team has in store. Coach Greg Koeller is also ready to see what the season brings.

“Our main goal is to get to the final four. That’s what we’re shooting at,” Coach Koeller said.

The first game to start the season is August 24, 2019, at Parkway Central. Make sure to come support!

Tennis

The girl’s tennis team has started the season off right with many hard practices. The girls are pushing to make this season the best one yet. All 16 members are excited for their upcoming matches. This is junior Leah Maxvill’s first year playing tennis, and she has set high goals for the season.

“I think the season will be fun and overall a good experience. I think we have a really good team this year, and I hope that we can go to state,” Maxvill said.

Football

The football team is looking forward to a successful season. The boys have worked hard this summer and can’t wait to show everyone what they can do on the field. With the teams first game coming up Friday, they are pushing harder every day. The upcoming season is going to be one filled with all sorts of talent that St. Dominic has never seen before.

“We have some players on the team that can play lots of positions and that can do a lot of things that we haven’t been able to do in the past,” Coach Blake Markway said.

Coach Markway and the boys are hoping to reach their full potential as a team and are excited to see what the season holds for them.

Softball

The softball girls have also been working hard for the season ahead. The season starts Friday against Troy Buchanan High School. The girls have worked hard throughout the summer and are excited for the season to begin. Senior Tori Forbeck has enjoyed her three years playing softball so far, and she can’t wait for her last season.

“I am most looking forward to playing my final season of Dominic softball with my fellow senior teammates. They are like my family, and I can honestly say I have no clue where I’d be without them,” Forbeck said.

The team is very close this year and hopes to win districts for the fourth year in a row!

Fall sports are excited to kick off their seasons and show their skills. They all hope to reach their full potential and can’t wait to see how the season plays out. Make sure to come support our Crusaders!
