A huge change is happening at St. Dominic this upcoming school year—we are welcoming Mrs. Stacy Stewart, class of ‘89, as our new principal. Stewart is replacing interim principal Cathy Fetter and will be St. Dominic’s very first alumni principal. Mrs. Stewart’s experience as an administrator, alumni and parent will be a gift and a blessing to the St. Dominic community in the upcoming years.

Mrs. Stewart is in year 24 of working in education. She first spent seven years as a science teacher at Fort Zumwalt South. She then became the assistant principal at Fort Zumwalt West and has been hard at work there for the past 17 years. Her experience and expertise in the education field have shaped her goals as an educator and mentor.

“I am looking forward to working with teachers and finding their passions and talents. My goal is to help them realize their teaching strengths and help them become the best teachers for our students. I am looking forward to working with each discipline’s curriculum content and design and help make and keep St. Dominic the most prestigious Catholic high school,” Stewart said.

In her years at St. Dominic, Mrs. Stewart was involved in cross country, basketball, track and the music ministry here. She, as well as both of her parents and four of her siblings, has attended and been a part of the St. Dominic community for decades. Mrs. Stewart’s personal experiences as a student and alumna will make her a dedicated and passionate administrator who is sure to bring a huge positive impact to our school.

Mrs. Stewart is also a parent to Madeline and Gavin, third generation students at SDHS. Madeline just graduated and will be attending Benedictine College in the fall. Gavin is currently in eighth grade and will be a freshman here in the 2019-2020 school year.

“Being a parent of a St. Dominic student lets you see firsthand the impact this community has on you. As a student, I loved coming to school every day. St. Dominic was a second home. As a parent, I watched a person I love unconditionally reap the benefits of this strong, faith-filled community,” Stewart said.

Mrs. Stewart has made it a priority to encourage student success. Her work revolves around prioritizing students and emboldening them to thrive at school.

“Working with students is one of my favorite things about education. I like to work for students and help them believe that they can lead and develop their own ideas to create an atmosphere that leaves their mark at St. Dominic. I look forward to helping students learn about themselves, encouraging them to experience activities and events outside of their comfort zone and to find out what inspires them and what they aspire to be in this community,” Stewart said.

St. Dominic is blessed to welcome such a dedicated, faith-filled and passionate principal and excited to see what she will accomplish in her time here. Welcome, Mrs. Stewart!
