SDHS Takes On SLHSMTA

On May 6, representatives and nominees from the St. Dominic production of Les Miserables journeyed to the Fabulous Fox Theatre to accept medallions for their nominations at the St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards.

Sophomores Charlie Wehde and Caleb Stoddard were nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actor” for their roles of Marius and Thenardier respectively.

“It’s a huge honor. Getting recognized for my work in telling a story that means so much to me personally is incredibly rewarding,” Wehde said.

“I was shocked when I first learned I was up for the nomination, but I am super excited to be a part of it and compete against so many talented people,” Stoddard said.

Director Melfreya Findley is very proud of these nominees and the hard work they’ve put in throughout this experience.

“I am super proud of Charlie Wehde and Caleb Stoddard on their ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor’ nomination,” Findley said.

In addition, the whole show received a nomination for “Outstanding Production.” This  nomination recognizes the incredible creation that the cast, crew, pit band and directors brought to life. This nomination affords the cast the opportunity to perform the Act One closer “One Day More” on the Fox stage.

“It is such an honor to be nominated for “Outstanding Production” for the St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards again this year.  With 36 schools participating, the competition was tough this year.  I am more than proud of the cast, crew, pit band and everyone who was involved in making our show a success. The biggest reward is the fact that the cast will get to now perform on the stage at the Fox Theatre, work with professional choreographers, directors and musical directors from the Muny and The Fox. This is such an amazing opportunity and possible once in a lifetime experience,” Findley said.

St. Dominic is also honored to receive the “Extra Mile Award,” acknowledging the extraordinary engagement of the audience in the show, including the decor and refreshments that were featured in the lobby. This award would not be possible without the extreme dedication of the PALS organization and their creativity.

Finally, every director is allowed to select two representatives to perform in the opening number of the awards ceremony. This year, Mrs. Findley chose junior Darby Duncan and senior Lori Cook to dance and sing alongside students from every other participating school in the ceremony.

St. Dominic is thrilled to be a part of the St. Louis High School Musical Awards, especially with so many exciting awards up for grabs, and honored to receive nominations for the Crusader Players’ fantastic work in Les Miserables.
