Young Duo Takes On State
Sophomore Alexis Liszewski and freshman Sarah Nelson competed in the MSHSAA state swim competition on Friday. Both girls did an outstanding job representing the school and performed well in the competition.
Liszewski swam in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.53, an improvement from her qualifying time. She placed first in her heat and she ranked 21st in the state for the 100 breast.
Nelson swam in two events: the 100 free and the 50 free. In the 100 free, her time was 55.64. She placed 27th in the event. In the 50 free, she placed 32nd with a time of 25.72. She improved both of her times as well.
Liszewski and Nelson competed against over 400 girls. They both agreed that the mental preparation for the competition was the hardest.
“The most challenging part was seeing how many girls you were going against and how fast some of their times were,” Nelson said.
Liszewski and Nelson both enjoyed being a part of the swim team this year. The girls loved how close they were with their teammates.
“My favorite part was meeting new people,” Liszewski said.
As for next year, the girls plan on swimming for the St. Dominic swim team again. Liszewski and Nelson want to keep practicing so that they can become better swimmers and qualify for state again. The two young guns should be very proud of themselves and their awesome swim season.
