Small But Mighty FBLA Team

On Friday, February 8, St. Dominic was proud to bring home 11 medals from the FBLA Districts held at Lindenwood University. Due to the massive success there, our school will have five students advancing to the State competition.

FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. Students who participate in this club get to choose any of the hundreds of businesses to represent. From there, they either take a test or make a presentation to see how well they do in their line of business in order to move through the levels. They begin at a school level, moving on to districts, then state and eventually to a national level.

Junior Ray Wilmes, and seniors Jenika Hazelbaker, Emma Story, Ryan Claus, Colby Koenig, Abbey Jennings and Jacob Grabenhorst were the students who represented our school this past Friday. Each of them chose a business to go into and most placed high enough to move on to the state level. Wilmes placed 5th in Agribusiness; Hazelbaker placed 1st and 5th in Agribusiness and Business Communications, respectively; Story placed 2nd in Business Communication, Political Science and Emerging Business Issues; Claus placed 4th in Cyber Security; Koenig placed 4th in Journalism; Jennings, along with Grabenhorst and Claus as a team, placed 3rd in Entrepreneurship but were unfortunately the only team who did not qualify for state.

The head of this amazing team, Mrs. Kasey Roberts, has been in charge of the club for two years and was astonished by the team’s earnings.

“I was really proud that we had 11 medals between us because we were such a small group compared to the public schools. It’s always really cool to see that,” Roberts said.

With five students moving on to state, St. Dominic has a lot to be proud of. State will take place April 14-16 in Springfield, Missouri, where the five students will compete via presentations or test scores in order to show off their knowledge in their line of business. Congratulations to the students who placed and good luck to those who are moving on!
