Making Waves at the AAA Conference

On February 4, the varsity swim team competed in the AAA Conference meet, sending nine girls to represent St. Dominic in the finals. The swimmers kept the momentum going in the finals with a fourth place team finish and several individual winners.

In the preliminary meet, sophomore Kallie Nero not only qualified for the finals, but came in first in the 500 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Butterfly. Freshman Caroline Cunningham, sophomores Ava Kannady and Kate Ryan and junior Hadley Tylutki also had a successful meet, each qualifying for two events. Cunningham qualified for the 200 Yard Individual Medley and 100 Yard Freestyle, Kannady qualified for the 50 Yard Freestyle, Ryan qualified for the the 200 Yard Individual Medley and the 500 Yard Freestyle and Tylutki qualified for the 100 Yard Breaststroke and 100 Yard Butterfly. Sophomores Katie Donnelly and Riley McAteer each qualified for one event. McAteer qualified for the 100 Yard Freestyle and Donnelly qualified for the 500 Yard Freestyle.

“Overall, it was a fun and competitive atmosphere and I really enjoyed spending the last meet of the season with my teammates. With this being my second year, it has been so much fun to make new friends and watch this team grow as a whole,” Ryan said.

St. Dominic also had all three relays qualify with sophomores Riley McAteer, Katie Donnelly, Kallie Nero and Ava Kannady in the 200 Yard Medley Relay; juniors Hadley Tylutki and Sarah Green and freshmen Alli Herbert and Caroline Cunningham in the 200 Yard Freestyle; and Cunningham, Donnelly, Kannady and Nero in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

On February 6, the nine girls competed in the finals, earning them several wins and a fourth place finish in the AAA Conference, beating several teams including rival Duchesne. Nero continued to make waves, earning first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly, second place in the 500 Yard Freestyle and third place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with McAteer, Donnelly and Kannady. Although they did not medal, many of the girls did very well.

Coach Rachel Imming could not be more proud of the girls overall, especially as a first year coach. She has watched the girls, both rookies and veterans, improve from the beginning of the season.“The nine swimmers that went to conference dropped their time going from preliminaries to the finals. There has been a consistent improvement from the beginning of the season to conference and I am super proud of our fourth place finish,” Imming said.

Despite having a young team, the swim team made a splash this season, winning several meets and beating experienced teams and competitive rivals. Their hard work paid off at the AAA Conference meet with several new swimmers qualifying for the finals. Good luck to Nero, who will be competing in the state competition!
