Super Bowl Bores
With the Super Bowl behind us, the Patriots ended up walking away with yet another win and a low score of 13-3. The game as a whole was quite underwhelming to all casual and offensive-minded fans, but to the defensive people, this was a clinic. The intensity of both defenses was brought out in the first half, until the second half when Tom Brady showed up and the Patriots put the game away with some crucial drives late in the game.
The defense started off great for the Rams, intercepting Tom Brady’s first pass attempt of the game. However, following that, it went all downhill from there, with not many bright spots on the Rams’ offense. Jared Goff led the treacherous offense, throwing a measly 229 yards on 19-38 passing. Todd Gurley wasn’t much of an impact either, rushing for only 35 yards with rumors of a tweaked knee bothering him from the end of the regular season. Overall, it was a night to forget for the Rams as they look to bounce back next season and contend for another title.
The Patriots were underperforming in the first half, their only bright spot halfway through the game being Julian Edelman’s 94 receiving yards. The second half was when they really picked up the pace, though. While Tom Brady threw for only 262 yards, under his career average for the Super Bowl, Sony Michel stepped up in a big way, finishing off with 94 rushing yards and the lone touchdown in the game, a two yard run midway through the fourth quarter.
The biggest takeaway from this year’s Super Bowl was that defense wins championships. Both teams put on a defensive clinic as the game was tight through the first three quarters. The game in itself may have been boring to many people, but showed that the future is bright for both defenses moving forward.
