Protecting the unborn is one of our main passions as a Catholic community. Parishes consistently preach about the importance of protecting the dignity of the unborn. But how do you defend being pro life? Here are some arguments to support a pro life standpoint.  

Double Homicide

In the United States, it is considered double homicide if someone kills a pregnant mother, but it is not considered murder to abort a baby at any point in a pregnancy. This contradicts itself completely. The definition of homicide is the deliberate and unlawful killing of one person by another. So, by declaring a murder of a pregnant mother double homicide, the government is acknowledging the humanity of the unborn child.

Scriptural Arguments

Luke 1:39-41

“During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb.”

The first person to recognize Jesus was John the Baptist—an unborn baby.

Jeremiah 1:5

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.”

This verse proves that God has a plan for each and every person before they are even born.

Psalm 139:13-16

“You formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, because I am wonderfully made;
wonderful are your works!”

Every child is a gift from God no matter how he/she is conceived, because God does not make mistakes.

Unborn Babies Feel Pain

Just because babies are still in the womb doesn’t mean they can’t feel pain. At 20 weeks, babies are able to feel pain just as you and I do. For those who are not familiar with the way abortions are completed, the methods are very brutal.

We, as a society, are made to nurture life, not destroy it. No sane person would attempt to hurt a baby outside the womb, so why is it still legal to abort a baby right before he/she is born?
