New Year, Same Matchup
The 2019 National Championship football game brought together two familiar foes, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers. These teams, led by star quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence, are meeting in the teams’ third National Championship Game in the last four years.
Many fans hate the repetitive matchups, saying they are becoming redundant and boring. Ticket prices have reflected this, plummeting from over $400 to around the $150 mark. Others, however, appreciate the matchup, pointing to the skills of both of the teams. Here’s a look at the matchup that will take place on Monday night.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama comes in as the number one ranked team, as well as being undefeated this season. Their quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is looking to keep his amazing season going, posting an astounding 41 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Alabama has been very competitive on both sides of the ball, ranking top five on offense and top 15 on defense. Coming off a tough victory against fourth ranked Oklahoma, they aim to keep the amazing season rolling through Clemson this week.
Clemson Tigers
The Clemson Tigers have been stellar this year, losing only one game this season on their path to a championship semi finals matchup against Notre Dame. They dominated in that game, posting a 30-13 victory. They rank top five in both offense and defense, but they are without star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence along with two other key players due to suspension. They look to pull the upset against the favorites in Alabama, and though they are considered the underdogs, they have the best chance of all the other teams in college to defeat the Tide.
Both of these two teams are well-rounded in all aspects and ready to take on the challenge of the championship game. Whether Alabama or Clemson takes home the National Championship trophy, the game will be gritty and thrilling. Two top teams facing off trying to prove they are the best football team in college makes for a great matchup that we all are looking forward to on Monday night, no matter what happens.
