The dominant US women’s gymnastics team became world champions once again on Tuesday. With a historical 8.766-point margin of victory, Team USA secured a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and added to an already impressive collection of world medals.

Led by the gymnastics legend Simone Biles, the team consisted of many young and talented newcomers, including Kara Eaker from Kansas City, Missouri. The girls jumped ahead after the first rotation, taking an early 2.7-point lead, and never looked back as they competed in Doha, Qatar last week. They beat the experienced Russian and Chinese teams, who placed second and third respectively.

Biles and her teammate Morgan Hurd went on to win the gold and bronze at the all-around competition later in the week. This marks the fourth world all-around title for Biles, making her the first woman to earn this accomplishment.

Despite having a kidney stone, broken toes and a few mistakes, Biles proved to be unstoppable the entire week as she went further to win two more gold medals as well as a silver and bronze in the event finals. She is now tied with Svetlana Khorkina of Russia by having 20 world and Olympic medals, the most by a female gymnast.

Team USA has dominated the world of gymnastics since the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. With record-breaking performances like this, the US women’s team has their eyes set on 2020.
