Fall sports seasons are coming to a close, but not for the cross country team! Seniors Maddy Stewart and Jon Remmers advance to next week’s state meet, along with juniors Jessica Bodmer and Emma Henke.

The runners crushed the districts course this past Saturday. On the girls’ side: Bodmer came in 5 with a time of 21:20, Henke in 13th with a time of 22:02, and Stewart in 15 with a time of 22:08. The fourth and final state qualifier, Jon Remmers, came in 10 with a smashing time of 18:03.

These four athletes have been running their hearts out and leaving it all on the course this past season in preparation for state. However, the courses aren’t the only thing seniors Remmers and Stewart will be leaving behind this year.

“After running cross country for four years, I am definitely going to miss the family feel of our team. We have gotten so close through the past season and I will not forget the relationships I have made,” said Stewart.

While the seniors may be leaving their team this coming year, they will not leave running behind. Stewart plans on continuing to run and work out on her own to prepare for her last high school soccer season. Remmers will continue to run as well for as long as he can.

“I plan to go as far as possible into my running career. Whether that be the end of high school, college, professional or Olympic. Wherever I end my career, I will be happy with what I have accomplished,” said Remmers.

Don’t forget to catch Remmers and Stewart racing to the finish line along with Henke and Bodmer at their state meet in Jefferson City this coming Saturday!
