Taylor Swift Voices Her Vote

On October 2, Taylor Swift posted a picture on Instagram with a very impactful caption regarding her political beliefs. For the first time in her career, she not only opened up about her political thoughts, but she also encouraged all of her followers to vote.

Swift has never opened up about who she votes for, and she is not outspoken about her political views. Of course, when she spoke about the topic her fans were surprised.

In the caption on her Instagram post, she claims that she refuses to vote for someone who does not support women’s rights, and she specifically calls out a current Congress member from Tennessee.

“As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking and date rape,” said Swift.

In the last couple sentences, Swift encourages citizens to continue to vote. She claims that she has her views and everyone else has theirs, but everyone must vote for who stands up for them and their beliefs.

Swift also asks voters to educate themselves on the representatives of their state. She encourages those who are of age to decide who they want to vote for and what they believe in.

Taylor standing up for what she believes in has inspired her fans, and they continue to show love and support her.

“Taylor Swift just posted an extremely political post on Instagram & I’m so happy. She has held back from that kind of stuff for years & I’m so glad she’s using her huge platform for good and speaking out,” tweeted a fan.

Swift’s post has brought voter registration numbers up by about 65,000 voters.
