Crusader Conspiracies
Conspiracy theories are known to entertain countless people, and there are many held to be true by our very own Crusaders. From Finland’s doubtful existence to the curious Mandela effect, members of St. Dominic are hungry for the truth!
Sophomore Ben Morales is an expert in all sorts of conspiracy theories; however, he is most passionate about one such theory regarding Finland. According to Morales, the nation we know as “Finland” is actually monopolized Russian and Japanese fishing grounds in the Baltic Sea. He claims that the name “Finland” is a giveaway to the nation’s true identity.
“What is the largest export of ‘Finland?’ Two things: fish and Nokia phones… case closed,” said Morales.
Even though Morales is fascinated by the topic, junior Grace Hill is another believer of conspiracies. She has personally experienced the Mandela effect, a theoretical feeling of remembrance that something happened, even though the event remembered did not actually occur.
“I believe in the Mandela Effect. There have been lots of times where I have remembered something being one way for my entire life, only to find out that whatever I thought was wrong. One example of this is the Berenstein Bears. There are a lot of people who remember it being spelled as ‘Berenstain,’ but the correct spelling is with an ‘e’ instead of an ‘a,’” said Hill.
While these students are well-informed in the area, Mr. Jason Asher also has opinions regarding conspiracy theories. However, he is not convinced of many. He believes that firm evidence is required to know if they have truth to them.
“My feeling is that most conspiracy theories don’t hold up to scrutiny and tend to say more about those who believe in them, rather than about the events themselves,” said Mr. Asher.
Whether you believe in conspiracy theories or not, you must admit that they’re a fun and entertaining way to put a twist of mystery into the happenings of the world. We will just have to wait and see to find out if any of them prove true!
