Homecoming 2018: A Hectic Week of Hollywood Glam
The decorations have been cleaned up, the boutonnières unpinned and the heels put away from Homecoming 2018, but the glamourous Hollywood night will forever live on in our hearts.
Homecoming started off with a bang Monday morning with a Back to the Future theme. Freshmen and seniors wore space apparel that was out of this world while sophomores and juniors rocked 50s and 70s apparel that brought us all the good vibes.
“My favorite dress-up day was the Back to the Future themed day. I dressed up in bell bottoms and a tie dye shirt for 70s apparel, and all day it felt like I had transported back in time,” said junior Tori Forbeck.
The rest of the week’s clothes didn’t disappoint either, with Pajama Day, Christmas in July Day and St. Dominic Spirit Day spicing up our halls. On Tuesday, students enjoyed a treat from student council, as they brought a Kona Ice truck onto campus for free snow cones.
The pep rally during school Friday got everyone fired up for the football game vs. St. Mary’s that night. The theme for the game was white-out, and the student section went all-out with white clothes, white accessories and even a white powder show.
After we had cleaned off the powder, the all important homecoming prep began. Once we were red-carpet ready, hundreds of us packed into the big gym on Saturday, dancing and singing the night away.
“It’s so cool to see the whole St. Dominic school come together to have a good time at homecoming. One of my favorite memories from the dance was when everyone circled around, and someone went in the circle to show their moves,” said junior Tim Blechle.
Dancing wasn’t the only big event at homecoming. The homecoming court was announced and filed onto the stage to see who would take the title of this year’s homecoming king and queen. Congratulations to seniors Ryan Box and Sydney Mueller for winning the honor!
“When I first heard my name called I was shocked. It was a really cool moment because everyone was cheering for us. Having to slow dance in front of everyone was kind of silly but also a very sweet moment,” said Mueller.
Homecoming was one of the first events the seniors had to experience a “last” of, and they went to the dance with mixed emotions.
“It is definitely bittersweet being a senior and going to my last homecoming. I have just been trying to make the most of everything this year knowing many things will be my last. I will definitely miss these days,” said Mueller.
The 2018 homecoming week will be missed by all with its fun themes, sweet treats and epic dance moves, but for now we’re on to the next thing, making memories together along the way.
