Not Your Average Librarian: Mrs. Playle

Every time we enter the learning commons, we see her sweet face. From mints, to staplers, to bandaids, she’s got it all! Mrs. Playle is sure to brighten your day and help with whatever you need, because she without a doubt cares about and loves every student here at St. Dominic.

Mrs. Playle began as the librarian here in 2016, but it feels like the St. Dominic community has known her forever. Students know they can go to her with anything or just have a great conversation with her.

“Mrs. Playle is easily one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. I know I can always count on her to be cracking jokes or just being an easy person to talk to. She is a great example of what every person should strive to be,” said senior Mitchell Dade.

Throughout the time Mrs. Playle has been here, she has made many lasting relationships with students.

“Mrs. Playle is one of my favorites. Every since she came to St. Dominic, she has always been there to rant to, for candy, to hang out with in the learning commons and to even yell at you for playing games. She has been helpful with project ideas, choosing books for lit and with me being so dramatic — listening to my pointless stories. Sometimes she may act like I annoy her, but she loves me,” said senior Rachael Livingston.

Mrs. Playle can turn any frown upside down.

“Mrs. Playle is the kind of person who will turn your bad day into a good day. Every time I pass the learning commons, she is always cheering up students. I know she has a passion of being a teacher, and a passion of being a good friend to everyone! She is always positive and that is why many St. Dominic students like her,” said junior Tim Blechle.

Mrs. Playle’s daughter, Courtney, enjoys having her mom at school, as they have the opportunity build their relationship as mother and daughter.

“I like to see my mom at school because outside of school I do a lot of activities, so it is nice to have that mother-daughter relationship at school. Also, she always helps me to stay positive when I am at school. Spending time with her on a daily basis helps me to keep a strong relationship with her,” said Playle.

It brightens Mrs. Playle’s day to see all the happy faces come in and out of the learning commons. She is thankful for all the memories and relationships made, and she’s hopeful that her students know just how much she loves them.

“The greatest enjoyment comes from being around the students. I enjoy the connections I have made with the students and hope that someday they will remember that someone cared about them,” said Mrs. Playle.

Along with being moderator for our very own book club, outside of St. Dominic Mrs. Playle loves to read.

“I love to read books! I also have an adorable yorkie that loves to sit next to me while I read and snuggle,” said Playle.

Next time you see Mrs. Playle, make sure to grab some candy and a hug. Let her know how much we appreciate everything she does for us at St. Dominic!
