Hurricane Florence Fury in the Carolinas

Since the landfall of Hurricane Florence began on Friday of last week, several states continue to be hit with strong winds, rising rivers and the loss of life.

As of Tuesday morning, the death toll from this monstrous storm has risen to 32. Over half of these deaths have come from North Carolina, where the epicenter of the hurricane hit. In Wilmington, NC, over two feet of rain has fallen and has effectively cut the city off from the rest of the state, due to the high waters. Wilmington and several other cities are expected to be encased in floods well into next week.

These massive floods have also caused three dams to breach in South Carolina alone. Dams in Spring Lake, Chatham Lake and Lake Darpo have burst and are only worsening the floods plaguing the state.

The location of Hurricane Florence is currently about 105 miles northwest of New York City and Philadelphia and is moving about 13 mph in that direction. Heavy rain is expected to hit those states today, before Florenceā€™s five-day assault movesoffshore into the Atlantic sometime Tuesday night.

Families in North and South Carolina will need all the help they can get to try and return to normal.
