Talent Times Two

Megan+and+Mandy+after+another+hard+fought+Crusader+volleyball+match
Tori Lawson
Megan and Mandy after another hard fought Crusader volleyball match

You see many sibling combos in Dominic athletics, but not many twins. Mandy and Megan Lawson are one of those twin duos. They both play for the St. Dominic Varsity Volleyball Program. Their relationship is unique, and competitive which gives them an edge in their game play, in addition to them being in the same position.

Mandy and Megan have been playing volleyball since they were seven years old. Their competitiveness is so unmatched that it has led to the Lawson twins having earned two medals at United States of America Volleyball Nationals. Along with a state run their Sophomore year and placing fourth.

“I have so many memories from Nationals but the best one would have to be when my team and I took first place at Nationals my fifteenth year,” Mandy Lawson said.

“I loved playing with my sister on the big court and sharing this amazing experience with her,” Megan said.

The twins’ relationship is definitely to say the least different. On the  volleyball court  you can find these two being completely different when they play. But outside the floor they have many similar personality traits such as their outgoing style, and flexible fun energy.

Although the twins have a sisterly bond off the court, on the court is a whole nother story. They fight for every touch and seek to compare stats. If I were you I would not get in between these two ruthless defenders.

“When I play with my sister, she brings out the best in me and I always aim to one up her,” Mandy said.

“I enjoy playing with my sister but sometimes it can get a little too intense between us,” Megan said.

They enjoy having each other to lean on on the court, and look to each other for a pick me up. Their connection undeniably transpires to others and you can feel the love. They are always flying to the ball no matter where it is, and if one does not get it up you know the other will be right there to pick it up.

These two talented studs are ready to lead this varsity squad to another state appearance, and frustrate anyone who tries to put the hammer down on these two. They are definitely players to watch this 2023 season, and will put on a show no matter who the opponent is on the other side of the net.

Make sure to come out and watch these studs in future volleyball games! The girls have many home games coming up along with the annual oakville tournament next week!
